Today the journalism students at the Walter Cronkite High School Summer Journalism Program had the opportunity to interview Phoenix Mercury player Brittney Griner as well as the legendary Ann Meyer.
Meyer and Griner play basketball. The only difference is, Meyer played in the Olympics in 1976 and Griner is fresh out of college, playing in the Womens National Basketball Association.
In the WNBA, Ann Meyer is an inspiration. Not only did she play in the Olympics, she is also the only woman to tryout for the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball League (NBA) and make the team- only to be cut later during practices.
Women have always had a difficult time breaking down the barrier between being a lady and being one of the guys.
Women are just as athletic as men, and Meyer and Griner effectively prove this.
