My name is Nicole Gimpl. I am a senior at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. I plan on graduating in May 2018, a full year ahead of schedule.

After participating in the 2014 Cronkite High School Summer Journalism Institute, I found that I enjoyed journalism so much that I applied to – and accepted by – the Cronkite School the following Fall.

With a semester writing for “College Times,” three semesters writing for “State Press Magazine,” a semester as an intern for “Downtown Phoenix Journal” and a summer working on digital communication in Mayor Greg Stanton’s office under my belt, I believe I have the necessary skills and drive that it takes to be a great journalist.

I am currently a digital news production intern with azcentral, a contributor to Uptown Phoenix Magazine, and the digital producer for State Press Magazine! I have worked for the Walter Cronkite School for almost two years alongside Anita Luera, director of high school programs and Mike Wong, director of Cronkite career services.

In my free time – which is rare these days – I enjoy reading, watching Netflix, exploring downtown Phoenix and spending time with my friends and family. I hope to one day become a print journalist for Sunset Magazine, or a digital producer for a media outlet.
